CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to Una Mary McCarthy-Deering (2nd Year) who qualified and competed in the All Ireland Junior Cross Country Championships on Saturday 13th March in Cork.  Una Mary placed 19th individual overall. A fantastic achievement for a superb athlete.

HOCKEY

1st Year Success in Southside Hockey Tournament

The Hockey season officially ended with another great success as the 1st A squad won the first Southside one day tournament held in St. Gerard's on Wednesday 14th April.  Having beaten Loreto, Dalkey and drawing with Loreto, Foxrock in their group they successfully beat St. Gerard's in a very exciting final.  Well done to all the squad.

Junior A Success in Southside League Final

The Junior A squad had a great finish to the season winning the inaugural Southside League final on Friday, 26th March in Killiney beating Loreto, Foxrock in a Penalty Strokes shootout. 

The squad played a fantastic game to win this trophy and fully deserved to bring a trophy back to the school after their narrow defeat in the Junior A Cup final in early March.

Well done to the team and their coach Gordan Watkins for all their hard work and commitment throughout the year and for bringing great success to Holy Child Killiney this season.

HCK Sports Camp 2010

Soccer, Tennis and Basketball.

July 26th - 30th, 2010 inclusive.

Ages 5 - 16 Years (Girls)

The main focus of the Sports Camp is to reach all levels of the sports enthusiast and to teach the basic fundamentals of the game. The sports camp atmosphere will encompass learning and encourage having fun while creating a competitive enviornment.

Nyumbani Immersion Programme

Holy Child School is currently organising an African Immersion Project involving a visit to the Nyumbani Village in Kenya for two weeks next February 2011 for 5th Year students.

At this time we are inviting all interested students to formally apply for selection.  To facilitate the planning of the trip it is essential that we receive completed application forms not later than Wednesday, 2nd June, 2010.

Haiti Appeal

Congratulations to all the students who were involved in the fantastic success of the raffle held during the Transition Year musical and the Non-Uniform day which raised a staggering €3,400 for Goal's Haiti Appeal. A representative of the Goal team accepted the cheque on their behalf from a group of our Student Council. 

Junior Cup Hockey Final

Holy Child Killiney were narrowley beaten 1 - 0 by Wesley in the Junior Cup Final yesterday.  In glorious sunshine helped by terrific support from their families, friends and the school, the girls put up a great performance to loose by only 1 - 0 to the League Champions Wesley.  Their performance was also memorable as Emma Russell, the Killiney Captain, was noted 'Player of the Match'. Well done to Gordan Watkins and the team who made us proud to be from the Holy Child School, Killiney yesterday.

Green 'Zine

Welcome to our first edition of "Green 'Zine", the eco-friendly magazine that will help save the world!  Well, maybe not quite save the world, but we certainly hope to our bit to help combat climate change.  The aim of this magizine is to raise awareness about global warming, and the serious negative effects it's having on our world.

Congratulations to Una Mary McCarthy Deering who has qualified for the all-Irelands cross country final to be held in the Cork IT, on Saturday March 13th.

Well done to all the girls who competed int he Leinster Cross Country Finals in DCU on Wednesday, 24th February: Aisling Deane, Judith Deane, Nuala McGann, Isobel Demery Una Mary McCarthy Deering, Sarah Keane, Zoe Carroll, Robyn Crowley, Eabha O'Sullivan, Pia Hutchinson, Emma Russell, Jenny Hughes and Eilis Keogh.

SOAPBOX Public Speaking Event

The Soapbox Public Speaking Event continued on the evening of Wednesday, 3rd February, 2010 with a visiting team from Blackrock College participating.  This concluded Round Two and a third and final round will take place shortly.

A Certificate of Participation was awarded to everyone who took part.  Well done.

 

Doodle 4 Google

We are delighted that two of our 5th Year students, Alice Gahan and Kirsten Shiel have been chosen as finalists for the Doodle 4 Google "My Future" Competition. This competiton which was opened to the public vote has now closed and the results will be announced on 1st March 2010. 

Thank you for voting.

Prizes: The winning doodle will be hosted on Google Ireland's homepage for 24 hours in March 2010 and will be seen by millions of users. The winner's school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.  More . . .

UCD Entrance Scholarship

Entrusting the Charter

On Saturday, 26th September, 2009 a Liturgy of Blessing took place where on behalf of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Sister Pauline Darby, SHCJ European Province Leader, entrusted the Charter to Tom O'Connor, chairman of the new Trust body. This momentous occassion was celebrated with a joyful spirit and a great sense of confidence that God will guide us on the journey ahead.  More . . .

Barcelona 2009

The Senior hockey squad headed to sunnier climates for pre season hockey training this year and all twenty one players and two coaches headed to Barcelona for three days intensive training at Athletic Terrassa Hockey Club.  More . . .  

Lourdes September 2009

Six 6th Year students were selected to go on the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.  They were Clodagh O'Donnell, Fleur Moriarty, Lisa McCleary, Alice Sheehan, Rosalind Comyn and Megan McNeive.

Young Writer Winners!

Congratulations to Emily Clery and Kate Coulter-Smith whose entries won in the best short story based on diary entries category. Emily Daly won with her entry capturing the essence of friendship.  Sophie McNeill who wrote "The Zombie and Me" won for her scary story.  Megan Beare came in the top five entries in Big Competition and won a Neo Notebook.  Well done to all the girls who entered the competitions.  More . . .

Swine Flu

Hand Sanitizer Dispensers have been placed at each entrance.  The sanitizers must be used by everyone using the school premises i.e. staff, students and visitors.

Holy Child Girls triumph at SciFest Exhibition

Congratulations to Helen McKenna and Ruth Foster whose project on the efficiency, or otherwise of allegedly environmentally friendly CFL light bulbs really caught the imagination of the judges at the annual Scifest Exhibition.  The two girls were awarded prizes for Best Senior Project and also for Best Technology Project (A special award presented by Discover Science for the most innovative use of digital sensor technology in scientific investigation).

EMMANUEL LITURGICAL MUSIC PROJECT

Congratulations to all our students who participated in the Emmanuel Liturgical Music Project over the past weeks, culminating in a truly uplifting and joyful performance in the Helix last Thursday night.  The enthusiasm and commitment of over 500 students present was exemplary.  For those of you who missed it there was an excerpt featured on RTE's Capital D programme available now on YouTube.  (Click on Link to view).

the church of the Daughters of Léinín.
The ruins of the earliest church have long since disappeared but the remains of an 11th century church still stand and are the inspiration for the school crest.
