SOAPBOX Public Speaking Event

The Soapbox Public Speaking Event continued on the evening of Wednesday, 3rd February, 2010 with a visiting team from Blackrock College participating.  This concluded Round Two and a third and final round will take place shortly.

A Certificate of Participation was awarded to everyone who took part.  Well done.

Doodle 4 Google

We are delighted that two of our 5th Year students, Alice Gahan and Kirsten Shiel have been chosen as finalists for the Doodle 4 Google "My Future" Competition. This competiton which was opened to the public vote has now closed and the results will be announced on 1st March 2010. 

Thank you for voting.

Prizes: The winning doodle will be hosted on Google Ireland's homepage for 24 hours in March 2010 and will be seen by millions of users. The winner's school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.  More . . .

 

UCD Entrance Scholarship

Entrusting the Charter

On Saturday, 26th September, 2009 a Liturgy of Blessing took place where on behalf of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Sister Pauline Darby, SHCJ European Province Leader, entrusted the Charter to Tom O'Connor, chairman of the new Trust body. This momentous occassion was celebrated with a joyful spirit and a great sense of confidence that God will guide us on the journey ahead.  More . . .

 

Barcelona 2009

The Senior hockey squad headed to sunnier climates for pre season hockey training this year and all twenty one players and two coaches headed to Barcelona for three days intensive training at Athletic Terrassa Hockey Club.  More . . .  

 

Lourdes September 2009

Six 6th Year students were selected to go on the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.  They were Clodagh O'Donnell, Fleur Moriarty, Lisa McCleary, Alice Sheehan, Rosalind Comyn and Megan McNeive.

Young Writer Winners!

Congratulations to Emily Clery and Kate Coulter-Smith whose entries won in the best short story based on diary entries category. Emily Daly won with her entry capturing the essence of friendship.  Sophie McNeill who wrote "The Zombie and Me" won for her scary story.  Megan Beare came in the top five entries in Big Competition and won a Neo Notebook.  Well done to all the girls who entered the competitions.  More . . .

 

Swine Flu

Hand Sanitizer Dispensers have been placed at each entrance.  The sanitizers must be used by everyone using the school premises i.e. staff, students and visitors.

Holy Child Girls triumph at SciFest Exhibition

Congratulations to Helen McKenna and Ruth Foster whose project on the efficiency, or otherwise of allegedly environmentally friendly CFL light bulbs really caught the imagination of the judges at the annual Scifest Exhibition.  The two girls were awarded prizes for Best Senior Project and also for Best Technology Project (A special award presented by Discover Science for the most innovative use of digital sensor technology in scientific investigation).

 

EMMANUEL LITURGICAL MUSIC PROJECT

Congratulations to all our students who participated in the Emmanuel Liturgical Music Project over the past weeks, culminating in a truly uplifting and joyful performance in the Helix last Thursday night.  The enthusiasm and commitment of over 500 students present was exemplary.  For those of you who missed it there was an excerpt featured on RTE's Capital D programme available now on YouTube.  (Click on Link to view).

Cill Iníon Léinín
the church of the Daughters of Léinín.
The ruins of the earliest church have long since disappeared but the remains of an 11th century church still stand and are the inspiration for the school crest.
