LEINSTER CROSS COUNTRY

On Wednesday 24th February our Junior and Intermediate teams competed in the Leinster Cross Country finals in DCU.  Yet again, the weather made the conditions extremely difficult for all the athletes.  In the Minor race Aisling Deane was placed 23rd individual overall. 

Una Mary McCarthy Deering was placed 7th individual overall in the Junior girls race and is through to the all Irelands!  Well done!

Junior tream comprised of Una Mary McCarthy Deering, Isobel Demery, Judith Deane, Nuala McGann, Jenny Hughes and Lydia Wafer.

Intermediate team comprised of Robyn Crowley, Emma Russell, Zoe Carroll, Sarah Keane, Eabha O'Sullivan and Pia Hutchinson.

All the girls competed with great grit and determination.  They excelled themselves.  Well done.

EAST LEINSTER CROSS COUNTRY

On thursday 4th February Holy Child travelled with five teams to the East Leinster Cross Country Competition in Avondale House, Co. Wicklow.  Despite the awful weather conditions the girls competed with great determination.  In the Minor A competition Aisling Deane, 1st Year, was 15th individual overall and as a result gained a place at the Leinster finals.  Rebecca Molloy, 1st Year, was 3rd in the Minor B competition.

Our Junior A team also qualified for the Leinster finals.  The team comprised of Una Mary McCarthy Deering, Isobel Demery and Jenny Hughes.  Una Mary narrowly missing out on a medal in the individual competition coming in 4th place.

Our Inter A team also qualified for the Leinster finals.  Sarah Keane 10th, Zoe Carroll 12th, Robyn Crowley 13th, Eabha O'Sullivan 24th and Pia Hutchinson 26th.

In the Junior B race Laura Conboy placed 8th and Orla O'Higgins 10th.

Junior B

The Junior B's played the semi-final of the league on Thursday, 25th February against Mount Anville. The team was Kate O'Connor (Captain), Rachel Wheeler (Goalie), Aisling Murray, Aoife O'Donnell, Holly O'Donnell, Holly Mc Gurk, Sallie Shipsey, Elva McCabe, Isobel Demery, Emma Keating, Katie Cahill, Alana Carroll, Sarah Keane and Sam Knight.

After a highly competitive match, the sides were tied.  Extra time failed to separate the sides and the game went to penalty strokes.  Unfortunately, Holy Child were narrowly defeated 3 - 2.  Well done to the girls for putting up a great fight.

Junior A

The Junior A's beat Muckross 2 - 1 on Saturday to secure a place in the semi-final of the Junior Cup!  This was obviously a fantastic result against a team who were one of the favourites to win the Cup!

The girls played brilliantly. An early goal from Ailish Naughton from a superb cross by Lottie Cullen put Holy Child in the lead in the opening minutes.  Muckross fought back and scored just before half time to leave the sides 1 - 1 at the break.

A tense second half followed with chances for both sides.  Emma, Aisling and Jenna put on a great performance in midfield.  Our speedy forwards Ailish, Lottie, Robyn, Sarah and Jessica worked hard to create chances upfront.  A fantastic defence by Marie Ruth, Sophie, Zoe and Stephanie, led from the back by goalkeeper Alex, succeeded in holding off the Muckross team.  A great goal from Ailish after a solo run up the pitch made the final score 2 - 1 to Killiney.  Well done girls!

Well done also to the supporters who came out to cheer on the girls, hopefully we'll see more at the semi-final!

Semi-final takes place this Thursday, March 4th.  Holy Child vs Alexandra College.  The match is being held in Holy Child at 3.00 p.m.  Hopefully as many girls as possible will stayafter school to support, parents are also very welcome!
